Wooden Nesting Bowls - Set of 9

Name: Wooden Nesting Bowls - Set of 9
Brand: My Store
Price: 15000.00 INR
Availability: InStock

A set of nine paper-thin wooden nesting bowls, hand-turned in Pali, Rajasthan.

Carved from just three blocks of wood, each block yields three bowls, cut one from within the other - an ingenious use of the material that requires extraordinary precision.

Known as Paatra Kaam, this craft is practised by the Kharadi community to make utensils for Jain monks. Our set is handcrafted by Mohammadji, a second-generation artisan with nearly 35 years of experience.

Lightweight and finely finished, each bowl is polished twice to bring out the wood’s natural lustre, and to add durability. Fill them with flowers, dry fruits or nuts for festive gatherings, or arrange them together as a sculptural centrepiece.

All nine bowls are carved from just three blocks of wood. Each block of wood produces three bowls, one from within the other. The wood carved out of the largest bowl is used for a smaller bowl, and the wood carved out of that bowl is used for an even smaller bowl, in an extraordinary feat of precision and craftsmanship.

Traditionally made by the Kharadi community for use by Jain monks, this is a remarkable craft.
